Angelos Angelou, Principal Executive Officer Mr. Angelos Angelou is the Founder and Principal Executive Officer of AngelouEconomics bringing over 20 years of experience in economic development and site selection. Having spent 11 years with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Angelos brings a practitioner's approach to AE's economic development team. During his time at the Chamber, Angelos was responsible for the recruitment of 400 technology companies and some 70,000 employees, including, Tokyo Electron, Motorola, AMD, Cypress Semiconductor, Applied Materials, Samsung, and Sematech. As a result, he has worked with major corporate clients domestically and internationally, and has carried much of that client base with him into private practice. A highly visible leader in the field of economic development across the U.S., Angelos is widely regarded as the chief architect in the establishment of Austin as a high tech center. Because his expertise is in the technology economy and global economic development issues, the national media regularly seeks his comments and insights. Angelos holds an M. A. Economics cum laude from St. Mary's University in San Antonio; B.A. in Economics, University of Texas at San Antonio. Angelos is on the Board of several organizations, including International Economic Development Council (IEDC), World Congress on Information Technology (Austin 2006), Treaty Oak Bank, and St. Edward’s University.
Steve Vierck, CEcD, President of Economic Development Steve Vierck is president of the Economic Development Division for AngelouEconomics. He provides oversight and direct engagement on a wide range of projects including workforce assessments, economic development strategies, marketing program assessment/development, data center feasibility studies, and site selection assessments. Recent projects in which Steve has served as Senior Project Manager include Moraine, Ohio, the Republic of Malta, Providence, Rhode Island, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and Colorado Springs Regional Economic Development Corporation. Steve combines the skills and understanding of a seasoned economic developer with a consistent record of achievement at the community, regional, and state levels. His extensive business development, marketing, and workforce development experience includes serving as National Marketing Director for the Arizona Department of Commerce, where he directed Arizona’s marketing and business attraction programs, and Senior Vice President of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council where he led business recruitment and expansion efforts. Steve has consistently applied his advanced organizational and marketing skills in key roles over the past 26 years, most recently as President and CEO of southern New Mexico’s Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance. Past positions also include Vice President/Economic Development for the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Executive Director of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. He and the teams he has directed successfully attracted and expanded over 350 industries generating over 25,000 jobs and $6 billion in investment from companies ranging from Intel to Allstate. A strong proponent of the need to better connect workforce development resources with economic development needs, Steve has actively served on the Workforce Investment Boards for the Phoenix metropolitan area and southwestern New Mexico. Organizations he has directed have conducted extensive research to better understand workforce assets, employer needs, and gaps. Steve has served for many years at the International Economic Development Council’s Economic Development Courses as a highly rated instructor. He is a recipient of the “William W. Lampkin Award for Long-term Excellence in Economic Development.” He holds a Masters Degree in Geography and a Bachelors degree in Regional Development from the University of Arizona. He has earned the certified economic developer designation (CEcD) from IEDC.
Carrie Yeats, Vice President of Operations At AngelouEconomics, Carrie is a vital member of the management team with a special focus on strategic operations. She creates and implements business development tools, targeted marketing programs, and communications strategies to enhance business relationships for the firm. Prior to joining AE, Carrie was the Assistant Director of the Industrial Development Authority of Chambers County, Alabama, where she implemented the organization’s business development initiatives. As Assistant Director, she interfaced with state legislators to garner their support and advocacy efforts for the appropriation of state non-statutory incentives and used existing political and cultural networks to interface with state agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Department of Economic and Community Development and Department of Environmental Management, to coordinate economic development efforts. Before working in Alabama, Carrie was the Project Coordinator at Lubbock Economic Development Alliance. In Lubbock, Carrie was responsible for overseeing and implementing activities in multiple program areas including recruitment, workforce development, and the bioscience initiative. In addition, she coordinated a year-long review of the organization’s economic development and marketing strategy and developed and implemented the corresponding recommendations. Carrie earned her masters degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University.
Ali
Cumber, Regional Director Mr. Ali Cumber serves as a Regional Director at AngelouEconomics, specializing in the Middle East and South Asia. He has expertise in the creation of sustainable growth mechanisms for developed countries, and the organization of financial and value added sectors of newly industrialized countries. He is currently overseeing the development of projects in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Ali's previous work with AngelouEconomics includes the calculation of population forecasts for the redevelopment of the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, as well as an evaluation of a Technology Park site in the State of Washington. Prior to joining AngelouEconomics, Ali provided enterprise support to a micro credit initiative in West Africa. In addition to the Arab Gulf States and South Asia, he has experience in El Salvador, England, Ghana, and Spain. Ali received a B.A. in Economics with a concentration in International Development from Boston University. He speaks English, Spanish, Urdu, and conversational Arabic.
Chris Carucci, Project Manager Mr. Chris Carucci is a Project Manager at AngelouEconomics with expertise in downtown revitilization. Prior to joining AE, Chris served as the Executive Director of a downtown economic development organization in Kansas City. In his role as Executive Director, Chris successfully created and implemented a Downtown Master Plan, as well as oversaw all organizational operations. Chris has managed a wide range of economic development projects including major capital improvement projects, business recruitment and attraction initiatives and establishment and management of several business improvement districts. Chris earned his Masters in Urban Planning with emphasis on Economic Development and his Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Kansas. Jeremy Zaborowski, Associate Project Manager Mr. Jeremy Zaborowski is an Associate Project Manager at AngelouEconomics where he provides research, site selection, and economic development planning support to the firm's project management staff. Jeremy is responsible for collecting and compiling data for community assessment reports, identifying current and future target industry clusters, and providing support in the development of community improvement recommendations and implementation strategies. Prior to joining AngelouEconomics, Jeremy provided economic and community development consulting services to clients in New York and Pennsylvania. He also served as a research assistant for the Department of City & Regional Planning at Cornell University, studying environmental systems job clusters in and around Syracuse and providing a population and industry analysis for Schuyler County, NY. While at Cornell, Jeremy acted as Atkinson-Tetreault Fellow, sponsored by the Telluride Association and the Department of City and Regional Planning, and worked as a Clarence S. Stein Research Fellow. Jeremy earned his Masters of Regional Planning at Cornell University and his B.A. in Philosophy and Sociology at Houghton College both in New York. Meredith Bossin, Associate Project Manager Meredith Bossin is responsible for collecting and compiling data for economic scans and market assessment reports, identifying emerging target industry clusters, and providing support in the development of community improvement recommendations and implementation strategies. Prior to joining AngelouEconomics, Meredith performed in-depth academic research on women and economic development in an informal settlement of the Dominican Republic. She was presented with the Outstanding Thesis in Latin American Studies Award for 2008-2009 by the University of Texas. Meredith earned a Master of Science in Community & Regional Planning and a Master of the Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas. She received a B.A. in the History of Art & Architecture from Rice University. Abel Balwierz, Associate Project Manager Abel Balwierz provides research and economic development planning support to the firm's project management staff. Abel is responsible for collecting and compiling data for community assessments, identifying current and future target industry clusters, and providing support in the development of economic development recommendations and implementation strategies. Prior to joining AngelouEconomics, Abel performed mapping and regional planning for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization in Austin, Texas while earning his Masters degree in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to attending graduate school, Abel worked for eight years as a Trading Analyst and NASDAQ trader for RBC Capital Markets. |
