THE FORECAST
The annual Economic Forecast event is the largest business event in Austin, Texas, attended by approximately 800 people each year. The audience includes public officials, educators, media, economic analysts, and business executives from Central Texas’ technology, legal, real estate, financial and other services industries.
Angelos Angelou has authored the highly regarded Forecast event since 1984. At the event, Angelos will provide an overview of the Austin economy in 2009, and his projections for 2010 and 2011. The forecast will include job growth, population, retail sales, taxes, entrepreneurship, venture capital, technology growth, emerging technologies, and predictions on the real estate markets.

Angelos Angelou is the Founder and CEO of AngelouEconomics, a renowned economic development and site selection consultancy based in Austin, Texas. In its fourteen-year history, AngelouEconomics has become one of the largest independent economic development consulting firms in the US. The firm’s areas of expertise include economic development strategic planning, workforce and labor studies, entrepreneurial strategies and technology assessments, economic impact studies, site selection and marketing.
AngelouEconomics has provided economic development consulting services to some of the most prominent regions of the world, including the States of Iowa, Texas, New Mexico, New York, and North Carolina; Portugal; the Czech Republic; Austria; Brazil; Kehl/Strasbourg, Germany; Malta and Puerto Rico. Mr. James W. Paulsen, Ph.D.
Chief Investment Strategist, Wells Capital Management
Jim Paulsen is the chief investment strategist at Wells Capital Management. An investment management industry professional since 1983, Jim develops investment strategies that assist in the management of separate institutional account assets as well as mutual and collective investment funds. He joined Norwest Investment Management, Inc., which later became part of Wells Capital Management, as chief investment officer in January 1997. Previously, he was the senior managing director and chief investment strategist for Investors Management Group in Des Moines, Iowa. Earlier, he was president of SCI Capital Management in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jim is nationally recognized for his views on the economy. BusinessWeek named him Top Economic Forecaster for 2001. BondWeek has twice named him Interest Rate Forecaster of the Year. For more than 25 years, Jim has published his own commentary assessing economic and market trends through his newsletter, Economic and Market Perspective. Money named his newsletter one of “101 Things Every Investor Should Know” in March 2004. He earned his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Iowa State University.


Mr. Kirk Watson
Texas State Senator and Partner, Brown McCarroll
Senator Kirk Watson has been a member of the Texas Senate since 2007. His law practice focuses on commercial litigation, and throughout his legal career, he has represented families, physicians, businesses and some of Texas’ major universities in a variety of disputes and transactions. He is also a mediator and involved in negotiation of a variety of business transactions. He is a highly recognized speaker on a range of legal and economic development topics, having addressed business and political leaders at public policy forums across the United States and internationally.
Sen. Watson’s priorities center on education, health care, economic development, 21st Century energy generation, environmental protection, transportation, budget transparency, and state employees.
In 2007, Texas Monthly named him Legislative Rookie of the Year after he was elected in 2006 to represent District 14 in the Texas Senate. He served as Mayor of Austin from 1997 to 2001. From 1991 to 1993, Watson served as Chair of the Texas Air Control Board, the state agency that was charged with addressing air quality in Texas. He also has served as Chair of both the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Advisory Board of Environmental Defense.
Sen. Watson was elected President of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, presided as Chair of the State Bar Committee on Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters, has been a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Texas, and was the Texas Representative to the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. He has received two Presidential Citations for work on behalf of the State Bar.
Sen. Watson earned his law degree from the Baylor University School of Law, where he graduated first in his law class and served as editor-in-chief of the Baylor Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, where he received recognition as an Outstanding Young Alumnus and Young Baylor Lawyer of the Year.
