The major purpose of creating a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is to do an in-depth study of the 35-town Metro Hartford region by assessing the region’s assets and liabilities, and recommending improvements that will strengthen the region’s economy. This CEDS study will:

  • Evaluate existing clusters and the region’s current economic performance
  • Consider and build upon other recent cluster work performed by the State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, other agencies, and industry focused organizations
  • Focus on other potential clusters and emerging industries not previously identified, and analyze the current market of the region
  • Outline market-based goals and objectives including recommendations for maintaining a strong future economy and an assessment plan utilizing current economic data

The MetroHartford Alliance has selected a nationally recognized economic development consultant to create a strategy to achieve these goals. AngelouEconomics (AE), the leader in technology based economic development, will assist the Alliance in creating a comprehensive economic development strategic plan for the region that will be used to guide the Alliance’s efforts for the next five to ten years.

A Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Steering Committee has been established to provide input and oversight in developing this strategy.  Committee members represent a wide range of regional stakeholders representing business, government, education, and the community.  Please click here for a list of members.

The project encompasses the 35-town region of North Central Connecticut, including the following towns:

Andover, Avon, Berlin, Bloomfield, Bolton, Burlington, Canton, Coventry, Cromwell, East Granby, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, Hebron, Manchester, Mansfield, Marlborough, Newington, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, Sufield, Tolland, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor and Windsor Locks.

The AE team will visit the region several times over the next six months, meeting with the region’s government, business, education, and community leaders. The team will analyze the information gathered in these meetings along with statistical data that is being collected to create several reports for the MetroHartford Alliance. These reports will cover a comprehensive economic overview, target industry analysis, and recommendations for regional economic development initiatives and marketing efforts.
