The Project

The major purpose of the NorthernNVision strategy is to determine the unique assets of each county within the NNDA region and develop recommendations to enhance and market those assets in a way that will attract investment to the region.  The seven counties involved include Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing and Storey.

Carson Valley, Douglas Co, NV

Over an eight-month period, AE will undertake community outreach and input by asking businesses and residents to take a brief on-line survey and by conducting focus groups throughout the region.  Additionally, AE will conduct interviews with CEO’s, city personnel, elected officials, industry leaders and private citizens in each county.  Information garnered will be used to create a comprehensive, actionable plan with milestone dates for economic development in rural northern Nevada.

Old State Capital, Carson City, NV

The first report is the “Database of Assets” report.  It will profile the region’s economy, demographic composition, and workforce while developing a comprehensive assessment of the region’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.  The second report is the “Visioning Document.”  This document will outline unique visions and target industries for both the region and individual counties.

The final report is the “Regional Economic Development Strategy.”  This strategy will synthesize the findings and outline an action plan and

implementation strategy that capitalizes on the region’s strengths and encourages regional collaboration. Although the approach is regional, each county will have an individual evaluation plan to measure success.

The project phases are broken out in the chart below:
