Over a four month period, AngelouEconomics embarked on a three-phase planning process to assist Yakima County Development Authority (YCDA) and its partners in identifying viable opportunities to strengthen the local economy by focusing on key targeted industries and providing strategies to spur their growth in the Yakima Valley.

The initial phases of the project focused on identifying four to six industry clients that matched Yakima County’s regional assets and represented good business recruitment prospects. The final phase of the study outlined the steps needed to improve Yakima County’s economy conditions and ensure that the region is competitive in recruiting or growing those industries. This included the development of a signature “Gateway” at the County’s old sawmill site. With the sawmill operation no longer active, the opportunity existed to purchase the site and develop it to a higher and better use.
