Format:
Speech – A one hour presentation with 15 minutes of Q&A. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation will be made available to audience members following the event.

Economic Forecast Event - A two hour breakfast or luncheon ideal for your next community function. AE provides guidelines for organizing the event. AE principal Angelos Angelou presents a 2-year forecast of your local economy. Following Angelos' presentation, former mayor of Austin Kirk Watson speaks on ways to inspire creativity and cohesiveness in your local economic development efforts.

Workshop – ½ day or one-day interactive workshops. Following the event, the results of our workshop will be presented to audience members. The client can choose from one or several of the following topics to be included in the workshops.

Retreat – 2 day interactive retreats. The results of our retreats will be presented to audience members in an Executive White Paper report. All presentation topics listed below can be presented at retreats. We typically recommend choosing five to six topics to present during the two-day retreat.

Economic Development Marketing & Branding – We will engage the audience in an interactive brainstorming session about economic development marketing and branding. The presentation will contain techniques for “internal” marketing, those activities that engage and excite the entire community in economic development. We will lead participants through a critique of economic development marketing from other communities and finish with a branding exercise to help the audience begin to think about their community’s image and the marketing message it wants to promote. The audience will leave with techniques for creative thinking and new applications of marketing that appeal to today’s highest growth businesses. While this works best in a workshop or retreat setting, a presentation on the techniques of strong community marketing and branding is also available in the one-hour format.

Community Visioning – We will lead economic development leaders through a community visioning and SWOT analysis. This presentation is highly interactive. We will ask the audience to help craft a vision statement for the community (where does the city want to be in 5 years?) and identify the city’s major strengths and challenges as a business location.

Organizing your ED Efforts – We will provide the audience with examples of various economic development organizational structures. With a high level of participation from the audience, we will outline the current economic development system in the community and identify strengths and areas for improvement. While this works best in a workshop or retreat setting, we can tailor the information to be presented in a one-hour speech.

Technology-Led Economic Development – Technology is changing the face of economic development. This presentation addresses how communities can use technology successfully to reach out to the larger, global economy. The presentation will also cover the importance of tech-based economic development, a review of technology industry clusters, emerging tech sectors, and tips for successful technology-led economic development.

Developing a Technology Economy: The Austin Story
Armed with an economic development strategy and the recruitment of 3M and MCC, the City of Austin began an ambitious marketing campaign during the mid-1980s to grow and diversify the City’s high tech industry. The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, under the direction of Angelos Angelou, who was Vice President of Economic Development at the time, used aggressive marketing strategies to build Austin’s high tech economy. Learn the Story of Austin and the strategies and techniques that were used to develop the city’s technology economy, as Angelos Angelou presents “Developing a Technology Economy: The Austin Story.”

This informational presentation provides audience members with an in-depth view of the technology industry and its fastest growing sectors. The presentation will help the audience get up-to-speed on the latest high tech trends and identify those sectors best positioned for future growth.

Regional Economic Update – Economic analysis is a tool that helps companies identify new locations and communities determine their strengths and weaknesses. This research intensive presentation will provide audience members with an in-depth analysis of their regional economy. The analysis covers everything from demographics and population to industry trends and real estate availability. This presentation is ideal for both economic development organizations and private sector companies.

Economic Forecasting – Economic forecasting is used to illustrate the long-term prospects for a community or region. Forecasting is much more than numbers on a page. In this presentation we will open the “black box” and explain the factors that drive our forecast predictions. This data intensive presentation gives a brief overview of the community’s current economic situation and forecasts where the community is heading in the future. Our forecast includes population, employment, retail sales, venture capital funding, real estate occupancy, and emerging industry sectors. This presentation is ideal for both ED organizations and private sector companies that wish to gauge a community’s future growth potential.

Site Selection Practices – This presentation describes the site selection process and how to access your community’s locational and competitive advantages for business attraction. Examples of well-executed marketing campaigns as well as the types of messages that speak most strongly to site selectors will also be discussed.
